Dominick Cruz will retain the title, says White
The last time Dana White, the president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC talked about the status of the promotion’s injured Bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz, White wasn’t quite sure when he would be able to return to the ring and whether or not he would be able to hold on to the title with rumors persisting that he could be stripped of the tilt due to inaction. During that time, White had mentioned that he would have a meeting with the champion and discuss his return to the ring.
And now, it seems that that meeting is done and the outcome is a good one for the UFC Bantamweight champion, who will get to hold on to his hard earned belt. Speaking about the future of the division, White stated that he had had a talk with Dominick Cruz and the outcome is pleasing for both parties. White mentioned that Cruz is feeling a lot healthier and he is in good shape as well. He added that Cruz has already started training before mentioning that he will be keeping the title and will be defending it when he returns to the UFC Octagon.
And although he couldn’t offer any possible date for the return of the champion to the UFC, White did mention that whenever he calls him up and says he is ready, he will be welcomed back to the promotion.
The 28 year old Cruz has been out of action since October 2011 after his emphatic win over Demetrius Johnson to retain the UFC Bantamweight Championship. Dominick Cruz was scheduled to take on Urijah Faber but he tore and ACL and has been out of action since with Renan Barao stepping in to claim the interim UFC Bantamweight Championship and is dominating the division in his absence.
